Domine, quo vadis. Barque painting
This art piece was made by an Italian baroque painter named Annibale Carracci. It is Christ appearing to ain't Peter on the Appian way. Annibale painted it between 1601 and 1602, originally the painting was painted on wood with oil paints. How were the art elements found in this art piece inspired awe in me? Well for me I have a close relationship with god and the lord. He has always been there for me and after all I've been through mentally, physically and educationally I had the support, love, and comfort from god. So for me seeing this art piece and having a connection with the image and story that Annibale was reaching for. I would most likely own a copy of this art piece because of how I connect to the piece. The back story. Peter, who was hightailing his way out of Rome Italy to avoid persecution, had a vision of the risen Jesus Christ and together they made their way back to Rome to do what was right and that was facing the prosecution. this painting is called the church of Domine Quo Vadis which is a latin phrase that actually translates to, lord where are you going? Overall I think this is one of the most beautiful, eye-catching and meaningful I've seen in all of this course. not only in this course but also that I've seen in months. It connects to the council of Trent because the council of Trent promoted devotion to not only the pope but also the saints and the Virgin Mary which actually had been rejected by the protestants and there was a consequence to that which was that new saints were made. I found this video explaining this painting and the church mesmerizing not only did it show the church today but also the history behind it and the painting.

The painting you chose for this blog is great. As a Christian, I really admire and love Jesus Christ. I vividly remember the big celebrations of Jesus Christ's resurrection in my town during my childhood. The parades and devotees imitating the Lord's sacrifice, like the person carrying a big cross for miles, really left an impression on me. This painting definitely brought back those memories. Great post!
I considered choosing this piece for my post originally so I am glad someone ended up choosing it. The Council of Trent influence on paintings of the Catholic faith during the Baroque period is evident in this piece. The realism of the painting of Jesus carrying his cross over his shoulder with his legs set firmly in place bracing the weight with steady feet created an assuredness in his appearance. This is paired with his pose directing Peter where he is headed. Peter in contrast seems to be questioning his choices and seems appalled. This is revealed in the position of his feet. One is firmly placed facing the direction he was intended on heading and the other positioned on the ball of his foot ready to change direction and head with Jesus, or possibly continue on his original journey. The lessons of religious paintings are created through this emotion and definitely influenced greatly by the decisions of the Council of Trent.
