This painting is an oil painting made by a French artist named Jacques-Louis David in 1785. Oath of the Horatii tells a story, recorded around the turn of the first millennium of the era by the roman historian Livy.  the story talkes about the sons from two families, the three Horatii brothers and the three curiatii brothers, who engaged in combat to settle the wars between Rome and Alba Longa around 669 BCE. The brothers are required to fight however one of the horatti brothers is married to one of the sisters from the Curiatii family, one of the Horatii sisters been betrothed to one of the brother in the Curiatii family. Even though the families are soon to be related by marriage the patriarch of the Horatii family demands that his sons fight against the Curiatii, this is showen in the painting by the father arming his sons with swords to fight. Domine, quo vadis. Barque painting

Image
This art piece was made by an Italian baroque painter named Annibale Carracci. It is Christ appearing to ain't Peter on the Appian way. Annibale painted it between 1601 and 1602, originally the painting was painted on wood with oil paints. How were the art elements found in this art piece inspired awe in me? Well for me I have a close relationship with god and the lord. He has always been there for me and after all I've been through mentally, physically and educationally I had the support, love, and comfort from god. So for me seeing this art piece and having a connection with the image and story that Annibale was reaching for. I would most likely own a copy of this art piece because of how I connect to the piece. The back story. Peter, who was hightailing his way out of Rome Italy to avoid persecution, had a vision of the risen Jesus Christ and together they made their way back to Rome to do what was right and that was facing the prosecution. this painting is called the church...

Italian Renaissance (Birth of Venus)

Image
“Birth of Venus” was made/ painted between 1482-1485 by Sandro botticelli who was a highly regarded painter in Italy during the renaissance . (https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=sandro+botticelli&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8). This painting became a landmark of the  XV century in Italian painting, it had rich meaning. The image of Venus was portrayed on a seashell, sitting naked on the seashore with the wind caressing her hair and roses showering her body. Venus's handmaid named Ora was waiting for Venus to get closer so she could dress Venus's shy body. "We can find clear references to the "Stanzas" , a famous poetic work by Angola Poliziano, a contemporary of Botticelli and the greatest Neoplatonic poet of the Medici court. Neoplatonism was the current thought at that time that tried to connect the Greek and Roman cultural heritage with Christianity." art elements

Image
this visual art piece and the elements on it gave me awe by the crips lines on her dress and the shading, colors of the fire sprawling from the bottom of her dress. I personally would own a copy of this art piece in my room not only because it's a beautiful piece but it also goes with the theme or I guess feeling of my room. it also speaks to me as when I was a dancer myself and how beautiful one painting can bring so many meanings back into someones heart and mind.i would like to not only see this art in my room but also in art museums or even in dane studios and theaters. the back story of this drawing named a burning flame within by Vanessa Horabuena is "When the way you re going seems impossible and the journey is longer and more strenuous than you could have ever imagined, I pray that you remember the struggles of those who have gone before us." facing myself blog

Hi, my name is Taryn Kneebone. I am an elementary education major at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. I have lived in this beautiful state, to be specific I've lived right here in Fairbanks since 2015 when me and my family moved here due to my father serving in the military and retiring here. I am excited to learn about art and the history behind it.  My relationship to art might be different than most people because I make jewelry and I do aerial silks which is a performing art. I am open to trying other types and techniques of art. Like for example painting, pottery, and drawing etc.  I do in fact own some art but only a few pieces that arent my own or a loved ones doing. As for art museums i do not go to art museums and i wish i could soak them in and enjoy them but personally they are not my cup of tea. this painting below is called facing myself ( artist unknown/ couldn't find the artist who painted this) this video explains what medusa is and how she beca...
